Hi, I’m Dr. Nathan Bowen!
I’m currently Chair of Performing & Media Arts at Moorpark College, where I’ve been teaching for the past 16 years. I’m a pianist, guitarist, composer, and music producer with a PhD in music – but above all, I’m passionate about helping people reconnect with their musical spark.
Over the years, I’ve worked with students of all ages and skill levels, and I especially love coaching adults who are coming back to the piano after time away.
Whether it’s been a few years or a few decades, I know how powerful it can be to rediscover the joy of playing – and I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a full acoustic piano?
No, but you’ll have a more enjoyable experience if you can have weighted keys and ideally 88 of them!
What if I’m traveling one week?
No problem. Once you have the content, you can spread it out in a way that works for you. The program is designed to accommodate anyone wanting to practice 30 minutes daily for two months, but also extend the mentorship beyond as desired.
Can my teen and I join together?
Yes! Working with others helps you make progress, especially with loved ones.
What if I want to take my time rather than do it all in two months?
That works! The whole point is to take a year’s worth of lessons and condense them into two months – if you need to take time to spread things out, that is probably better. Two months of mentorship are included, and if you’d like to continue the direct-access mentorship, that will be a monthly fee of $99/month.
What if I’m really rusty? I’m motivated, but it’s been a long time. Will this program be too tough for me?
That’s okay! I have had success with students who could really only read treble clef and had always struggled with bass clef. We found a way to get past the obstacles, and then make quick progress.
What if I’m an intermediate piano player? Will the content be too simple?
I do my best to accommodate all skill levels, and make sure to fill in gaps of understanding. If there are topics you are interested in, we’ll identify those together and make sure you have appropriate challenges to help you progress rather than plateau!
